The Right Questions To Ask Rental Companies About Their Fee
When it comes to renting a vehicle, many people shop around and get the price quotes not really knowing what the daily rate will cover, but simply figuring that one price quote is the equivalent of the next and that the lowest one is the best deal.
The final line rate of your car rental will often include many additional charges that are not revealed when you call to get a rental quote. The key to not spending more then you want on a rental, and actually getting a good deal, is knowing what these additional costs are and asking about them when you call to receive your car rental quotes. Below you will find some of the fees that are tacked onto the rental cost, by knowing about these fees you will be able to save more money for your trip and will not be surprised when you pick your rental car up at your vacation destination.
1. SURCHARGES AND TAXES- These fees can add up greatly on your rental car. When you call to get your rental quote be sure to ask the company to include them in the daily, weekly or month price that they are quoting you. By getting this fee added in to your quote you will have a more accurate idea of how much your car rental will end up costing you. Do not assume that each company will have the same taxes and surcharges, they all have different rates that they charge depending on where they are located and various other reasons. Therefore when you are getting your quotes be sure to ask each company to include it, otherwise you may be adding more, or not enough to each of the other rental quotes that you receive.
2. MILEAGE- This is a big factor when it comes to renting a car. Most car hire companies will offer you unlimited local travel, but usually if you are traveling over a greater distance, they will allot you a set number of miles included in the rate and the rest you pay per mile as you go over this pre-set amount. The rental companies set this allotted mileage so tight, that unless you just drive directly to your destination and don’t use your vehicle while you are there; you will most likely go over in mileage. And depending on how many miles you go over this can add up to hundreds of dollars added onto your rental rate.
3. INSURANCE- This amount is almost never figured in advance or included in a rental price. If you don’t have another way to cover the car then this is a necessary amount of about $20 extra per day that you will have to tack onto your rental fees. Many independent insurance policies as well as major credit cards will pick up the insurance on a rented vehicle, so check around in advance. It could save you quite a bit in the long run.
