Yoga Gear You May Want

Yoga is all about leaving the materialistic world, but practicing yoga is easier with a few pieces of basic yoga items. The main items that most yoga practitioners need are comfortable clothing, yoga mats, balls, blankets, yoga positioning blocks and straps to make poses easier. Different types of yoga will benefit from different types of equipment, though clothing and mats are used for most types. Many yoga props are used to align the body in specific poses, called asanas. For many asanas, aligning properly is important to posing correcting and not injuring the muscles.

The main purpose of yoga clothing is to be comfortable. Yoga clothing should not be too restrictive, as that can keep the mind too much on the physical. But, yoga clothing shouldn’t be too loose, or it can make some poses more difficult. A shirt should fit tightly enough so that it will not fall downward when the head is below the waist for certain poses. If the pants worn in yoga are too slippery, it can result in falls and difficulty with some poses. Traditionally, shoes are not worn while practicing yoga, and may not be allowed in a gym or yoga studio.

Yoga mats come in handy for keeping some personal space in a yoga class. Yoga mats also give the yoga practitioner a softer surface than a hard floor. The chief purpose of having a yoga mat is to provide a certain amount of traction to avoid falls. A floor without a mat can become more slippery as the routine goes on and sweat starts to build up. Yoga mats are often called sticky mats, and are available in most yoga centers and gyms.

Yoga blankets are often optional equipment. Blankets can be used on top of a yoga mat for extra cushioning. Or, they may be used to put under specific areas in order to keep a pose. They can easily be folded into different arrangements to assist in different types of poses. To stay warm while meditating, many yoga practitioners wrap themselves in a blanket. Yoga blocks are used much like yoga blankets. They are used to create a better alignment and to create a better sense of comfort. Yoga blocks can be used with standing poses in order to make them more comfortable.

Yoga straps come in useful for people who have trouble with various yoga stances. There are many poses that require difficult arrangements that aren’t possible for all yoga practitioners. Yoga straps are used to assist people with reaching body parts they may have trouble reaching, and to hold poses that are difficult for them. Yoga balls can be used in many different ways. The ball can be leaned on or sat on for challenging poses. Balls can be used as a support for the back during back bends. They are also useful in strength training.
